Being a history teacher, I make it a goal to find a comfortable medium of both writing and creative thinking in my class. Often, my assignments aim at letting my students demonstrate their ideas visually, which truly makes a difference for English Language Learners. Therefore, a bulk of the materials I am asking for will be used for assignments that get my kids creating, such as markers, construction paper, scissors, and glue. My students need basic materials for writing, having extra pencils, erasers, and highlighters (used to identify different parts of their writing, Pink is for Topic Sentences, Green is for Evidence, and Yellow for Detailed Analysis) are essential for my students to be able to further advance their writing and literacy skills. Lastly, through this project, I hope to be able to add some comforting factors into my classroom. Although I am grateful for the large size of my class, the age of my building comes with a price. Having soft lights and calming scents will help warm my classroom and build a comforting feeling to welcome my students. 10th grade is a critical year for keeping my students enrolled in school, having an opportunity to give them a History class that welcomes them and feeds their thirst for knowledge can make all the difference. I am very fortunate of the supplies that my colleges have given me, but unfortunately, many of the supplies that my class needs are running low. I hope to be able to continue to give my students the supplies they deserve. School is still a new adventure for many of my students, and it is my aspiration to help them find joy and excitement in education.
