The most heartbreaking, but common, experience of the art teacher is when they hand back artwork to students, often something they were so proud of, only to find the art in the trashcan at the end of the day. Of course, the students learn through the process of making the art, and the learning is the most important part. It is tragic to find work in the trash can nonetheless. Why don't more students keep their art? I spent several days investigating, and the most common answer was, "I don't have anything to do with it." That is where the canvases come in. What do you do with a canvas? You hang it on your wall, and it doesn't need a frame! It makes an artwork look much more professional! No more flimsy paper hanging on the fridge! No more painted paper in the landfill! Unfortunately, the budget will not cover a canvas for every student. Please help me give students a purpose for their artwork. Their pride won't fade when they see something so nice hanging on their wall at home!
