Our STEM Club is composed of elementary children at a rural school. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. These students are rural students from a town with a high level of poverty, and would not have the opportunity for hands-on robotic engineering and programming without this program. Each year the students have a theme and build on that theme throughout the year. Our first year they created a habitat for a bee and a honey badger and learned about both while also learning about the environment and learning to code their robotic bee. This year we are exploring space as our theme and the students are creating a space station on the moon. They are using Lego bricks to build their space station and programming a working Lego robot. We need to be able to purchase supplies for the children to be able to maximize their learning potential. We are asking for funds to purchase the Lego Educational bricks, the WeDO robot, and organization carts to store and sort our Legos in. We have a small cart now, but we had to wire it together so it wouldn't fall apart. Every time we roll it, we hold out breath, hoping it won't break. We would like nicer rolling carts to last that the students can use for years to come.
