Raising salmon in the classroom is a great way to teach student understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of fishes while creating an awareness of the needs of the aquatic environment. Students will be able to observe firsthand how salmon hatch, how they grow, and how we are connected with nature. The salmon books that I have selected will guide students through the life cycle of salmon as they observe their salmon transform through the stages. By providing my students with the salmon books along with the experience of raising the salmon in the classroom, my students will become better stewards in their community.
