These books will allow the students to have more choices with types of books and more topics to read about in both the fiction and nonfiction genres. I believe creating the love of reading is crucial to helping kids learn. The more subjects, ideas and concepts they are exposed to through books, the more opportunities they have to ask questions and research (read) to find the information to answer their own question. Reading is a foundation to learning. Having books related in similar topics allows the student to track their own reading, spark curiousity and increase their desire to learn. I am wanting my students to be exposed to different titles offered through the book selections. I chose the best seller collection to encourage them to pick up a familiar title or character and be excited to read. I chose the paired studies collection so that the children may get excited about a topic in a fiction book and realize it exists in the real world around them. Once again encouraging them to read more and learn.
