Materials of this project will benefit the entire special education program at our school (over 30 students!) and will be shared among classrooms. Sensory time is a crucial part of our day that helps us tremendously! During this time, we are working on crucial skills that help us generalize those skills in different settings. Sensory Processing Disorder affects so many of my students and impacts how we handle different stressors in our lives. Having a designated time (and used continuously through the day) allows the students to improving social skills such as communication and cooperation, work on gross and fine motor skills, calm children down when they are agitated, and stimulating the brain by creating neural pathways and improving sensory processing systems.
