Math is more than solving for x. It is about finding patterns, justifying your reasons, and communicating results. Digital technologies, like calculators, are essential in making these parts of mathematics happen in the classroom. I use the calculators in my classroom as data collection devices, organizational tools, analysis applications, and an essential tool for completing the ACT. In the digital age, every student learning math should have a calculator as part of their toolkit. Our classroom sets at Malcolm Shabazz City High School are over 15 years old and they are starting to fade away, one-by-one. It is time to refresh our supply of calculators.
