Every day, I like to gather my students to the back of the classroom and start whole group instructions before we break up into small groups. Currently in order for students to come to the meeting place in the room, students must grab a pillow if they cannot fit on the small rug and find a spot. But with 25 students, that takes valuable time away from learning and the constant "I can't fit" or "she is touching me" begins. Having a designated classroom rug will help maximize learning time more effectively since students would already know where to sit so they can focus on learning. Also, it would allow students a comfortable space to continue to build a caring and respectful classroom community. This rug will benefit my current students as well as the students I will have in the future.
