Flexible seating helps to create an environment in which communication, interaction, and collaboration are encouraged. In our classroom full of gifted and talented students, we have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in which teamwork is essential. Many lessons are centered on problem based learning and authentic scenarios in which the students need to cooperate and work with each other to complete a task or series of tasks. Having seating options available leads to cooperative learning and peer teaching so that problem solving can take place. The goal would be a collaborative effort in which the team or individuals find a way to successfully navigate their way through a challenging experience.
