This novel study is critical for our young readers as many of them are struggling with the demands of new technology and virtual learning. Giving students their own personal copy of Ghost Boys will allow us to bridge the technology gap and empower them to analyze plot development, complex themes, and study the intricacies of characters. In this work, Author Jewell Parker Rhodes gives young readers an opportunity to think critically about people, society, and the role we all play in this world. This novel study supports students in untangling the complex work ahead of them in appreciating and advocating for equal Civil rights and rebuilding our society. All students will participate in a research project as part of this literacy work involving self-selected areas of focus on learning about the work currently underway and proposing additional solutions in the years ahead.
