As with all students, our kiddos love recess. The chance to run and play is exciting and exhilarating. Many of our kids struggle at recess though. For kids from trauma, this unstructured environment causes anxiety, fear, and chaos within them. Often times this then results in acts of aggression, defiance, or avoidance. All kids deserve to be successful and included at recess. To do this, we want to offer an alternative recess for students who need it. We want to provide calming, collaborative experiences with art, STEM, and collaborative opportunities. We are hoping to have STEM kits, art supplies (spirograph, coloring materials, paint and paper) pattern blocks and clay. These materials will help kids who need an alternate recess for many years to come.
