Many of our students have an interest in learning to play guitar. There are only a few guitars in the classroom, so they have to share. Because music class is a shorter class and not as often as other academics, the students don't get a chance to use the guitars long enough to gain in their learning. They only get to use it for a few minutes and then have to pass it along to the next person. They want to make music and play the songs they hear on the radio, but there is not the resources to help them do that. Incorporating modern band into the music classroom will help to nurture their creative energies and learn about music while learning to play the songs they love. By funding this project you will allow me to begin to acquire a class set of guitars so I can teach the entire class at once, therefore giving all students the chance to practice the skills they are learning on the guitar.
