We will introduce materials in our STEAM unit quarterly. Students love legos and we plan to create reading and writing stories with our materials. We plan to publish and establish a reading library of student made materials for our classroom. The legos will create a three dimensional scene that will allow my students to visualize their stories. The writing materials will allow them to put their stories to paper. The literacy teacher books will allow me to encourage and model different types of writing for example poetry. The STEAM kits will allow stories to connect their stories together and develop cooperative teams to create plays, movies, etc.
Writing will enhance their reading abilities making STEAM projects easier for students to become engaged. Writing about what they have created will allow the students to internalize the learning. When a student can write and read about their projects; they have mastered that skill.
