I want to provide a copy of "Swindle" to each of my students to use in a read-along as a class and then for them to keep and enjoy after. When I was in school, my favorite part of class was when we would all get out our books and read-along with our teacher. While we read we would learn new words, grow our background knowledge, and discover things we loved about literature, but to us students we were just reading an entertaining book and enjoying the connection we had with our teacher when they shared this book with us. By engaging in a read-along, my 4th graders will be exposed to rich literature, develop their vocabulary, participate in discussions, and understand how Literature Reading skills come into play while reading a longer text. My 4th graders have been doing Remote Learning since September, and they would enjoy the connection of sharing a book and discussion with me and their classmates. "Swindle" is a highly engaging book for all genders and I know some amazing discussions will come about as we read this book together.
