My students attend a Northern California urban school that provides 3 meals a day to most of the population. Many families don't have books at home nor do their parents read for pleasure themselves. My students have not experienced the wonders of reading to learn things, but believe that many books are written after the movie comes out! They are curious but have not been exposed to vocabulary, different types of books or what books have to offer readers.
