I am requesting a classroom set of the books Because of Winn-Dixie and Stone Fox. We use both books as mentor texts with our reading curriculum to teach theme, character traits and other skills and strategies related to the reading session teaching points. It is more engaging for students to listen during a read aloud when they can have their own copy in their hands. It allows my students to follow along while I read, notice text features, and find evidence within the text to use to support their thinking. Comprehension increases and students have deeper and richer conversations related to the text.
