We have over 40 students ready to cultivate and grow our school garden. One shed is for the adults and would house the larger tools and fertilizers. The second shed we are most excited about is for the students who would be responsible for organization, coordination of tools for projects, and would take ownership of the shed in a safe environment. A tool holder and shelving would be included to help the students with the process especially our primary students. Our tools of hand cultivators, gloves, water pitchers and brooms would be for the raised beds and would allow each team to have equal opportunities in our weekly meeting. Our youngest students would be more involved with their older student buddy and would experience first hand each step of the gardening experience. The hose supplies are for us to extend our garden with an additional six raised beds that have been prepared. Our Garden Team is popular and always has more students then spaces. The addition will allow not only our team to be more engaged, but also for the other students during the day as our garden and recess area are intertwined to maximize learning opportunities. And students could sneak more tomatoes during their recess.
