I teach in a rural Kentucky school that is predominately low income. Students are not always given the support and encouragement (monetary and/or emotional) that they need in order to achieve in school. This support has to come from teachers by providing them with the skills they need to succeed. It has been noted that male reading scores are much lower than female scores. It is my belief that if we provide these boys with something they are interested in reading that their reading skills and love for literature will increase. By providing books and encouragement to the male students I can be a small part in making this happen for them.
