Sitting in traditional desks just doesn't work for everyone. Maybe the desk is too short or not wide enough. Maybe it is just an invitation to lay one's head down and take a nap. I'm sure you know someone who needs to stand up to work and stay focused; add several of my students to your list! The students in my class who do better when they stand up are running out of places to work. There simply are not enough places in my room to accommodate the students who would like to stand up for part or all of the class period.
