My 5th graders will be participating in Battle of the Books this year. Teams of students will be reading 15 different books and then have a "battle" against other teams in our district by answering comprehension questions about the text. My students love the "Harry Potter" series and I am planning on reading "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" as a read aloud for my students. This is a Battle of the Books text this year and I am hoping reading the text out loud with the class will help entice students to participate in this program. With these books, I am hoping to foster a love of reading in my students. As an avid reader and Harry Potter fan myself, I want students to have access to these books so that they can follow along with me while I read my own personal copy. I am hoping if each student is able to have their own copy of the text, they will be more engaged and more successful in our Battle of the Books.
