Having access to tools and equipment that foster creativity and can be used to teach hands-on, real world skills is a welcome opportunity. This lathe will add new possibilities to the engineering and robotics programs. In engineering, students will be able to add manufacturing into the engineering design process. Working from idea to drawings to computer model to product, students will see their creations realized. Our robotics program will gain the ability to custom manufacture purpose-specific parts, greatly increasing our abilities, learning opportunities, and competitiveness. Getting students to work with their hands teaches important skills and thought processes not always engaged in traditional classes. This piece of equipment will be a welcome addition to our slowly growing set of tools that serve this purpose. Opportunities to use these tools give students a perspective on skills and career options for after high school.
