It is my hope to make my classroom a safe and calming place for my students. Entering a room with blocked fluorescent lighting is one element to assist in keeping the room calm. When students are feeling anxious, mad, or just need a quiet space to take a break they will be able to stay in the classroom and use the tools in the cool down corner. Students can use the alternative seating not just in the cool down corner but also at their desks if they need to. Students can utilize the various stress relieving / fidget toys throughout the day not just in the Cool Down Corner. Many of my students struggle with the noise of the cafeteria, using the noise concealing headphones would allow them the opportunity to go to lunch with their peers. This Cool Down Corner would give the students the feeling of comfort and safety inside and outside their own classroom. All students should be able to come to school knowing that their classroom is one that is safe and comforting to meet their individual needs.
