Pretend play is a vehicle through which children internalize the world around them, participate in spontaneous communication, and socialize. Playing with multicultural characters in a familiar setting will build respect for commonality with classmates. My students are young so in our small town many enter school with limited significant experience with individuals who look differently than their family. This set will help students be more comfortable with differences. We want our students to see every other student as a potential friend. Our dream is that they carry this value as a meaningful part of their lives. We want our students to practice playing with and loving those who look different.
