Lunchtime can be a great time for socializing and learning, as well as fueling our brain. The last 15 minutes of lunch gets loud and the kids start to get a little rambunctious (about 130 4th and 5th graders) and sometimes behaviors start to bubble. I would like to keep a small bin of travel-sized games and conversational starters at the end of each table (8 tables) that could wipe clean if needed (because lunchtime involves sticky fingers!). Games make waiting for your food or for your teacher to come pick you up much more enjoyable! At the same time throwing a little learning in. With these materials available for them to choose from the students will be more engaged and less likely to move around the cafeteria.
