Students have been participating in a reader's workshop model throughout the year developing novel study skills. We've enjoyed reading books in partnerships, realizing that working together makes reading more enjoyable and deepens our understanding. This novel comes highly recommended for my advanced peer group for its fun and for big ideas, including compromise and altruism. Compromise and altruism are critical life lessons. This story will allow students the opportunity to recognize and develop these themes as well as others using the skills they've learned. Working together and thinking together will challenge students to go more deeply into relevant, timely literature.
