I am very excited to be able to work with our fabulous district math specialist/coach. All of the items on my "wish" list were recommended by her and will be used by ALL students in my classroom to better understand numbers and how they are broken apart.
Number sense is the building block of all math concepts. It is the foundation to understanding more complex mathematical thinking. Our hope is that by incorporating Rekenreks into our daily lessons, students will begin to see how numbers are constructed and the relationship they have with one another. Rekenreks offer students a hands-on, concrete way to show their mathematical thinking and building of numbers. Students will be able to utilize these manipulative's to compose and decompose numbers. In addition to this, Rekenreks are a wonderful hands-on tool that help keep students engaged during the learning process. It is so important in the primary grades for students to establish a strong base knowledge of the primary benchmarks 5, 10, and 20.
By donating to our project, you will ultimately be helping to increase student academic achievement.
