"A Long Walk to Water" is a novel with a very important message for children about never giving up! The children will learn about two different characters and their journey in war torn Sudan. My students will read the text to learn about the social injustice of poverty and the struggles people face while living in a country that is economically poor and in a war. There can be many connections made to several current events and this novel. I have read this book with my students in the past and they enjoyed it thoroughly. Many children developed a love for reading from this one text. I would love to secure enough copies to read it with my students this year while following safety protocols. Children who develop a love for reading become lifelong learners, and that is what I would like for my students.
