Almost all of my students struggle with reading. Graphic novels are a great start to get students reading full-length novels. Studies show that students who read independent books will increase their reading level and be more successful throughout their schooling. The books I have selected are always checked out and I have to turn students to other books they are less interested in while they wait for these books to be returned. I need multiple copies so students can read a book they are interested in when they request it. It helps me build trust with the students and the ability to help them pick more challenging books later on.
