We are trying to build our sensory room to meet all students sensory needs. Building a sensory room that is age appropriate for secondary students can be a difficult and expensive task. I have students who calm down and self stimulate by singing and "performing concerts, with music, looking at various lights, and bouncing on furniture. Giving these students items that meet their sensory needs enhances focus in the classroom. It gives them a chance to control their emotions and prevent over-stimulation. Building an age appropriate sensory room will give my students with severe special needs a safe place within the classroom.
