I have had the chance to borrow a couple of the books from the Mercy Watson series and my students have fallen in love with them! When I had a book to borrow, we would begin our day with calendar and then read a few chapters of Mercy Watson, after being begged to do so. One morning, our principal walked in as I was reading a chapter of Mercy Watson and noted that not a single student noticed she had walked in because they were so engaged! Mercy Watson hooks students and has incredible opportunities to apply what we are learning in the classroom. Students are constantly making predictions, retelling stories, and visualizing. Whenever I finish, I always hear a "NOOOOO!" and they are already excited for the next morning read aloud. These books are also good for a few of my students who are ready to read books with a little more challenge.
