As my students are returning to the classroom, one of the most important aspects of the return is their health and safety. To help stay as safe and healthy as possible, we will be following Covid-19 guidelines. This includes washing our hands and sanitizing often. Since my school is located at a temporary campus, we are in need of a sink. Other tools and manipulatives will be used to promote hands on learning will maintaining social distancing. All health and safety items, as well as learning tools, will be used to help our class stay as health as possible and to limit the spread of Covid-19, while being engaged in our learning. More than ever it is extremely important to be engaging students in discussions and conversations about social justice, including race, racism, gender, and diversity. These texts will support me in developing a curriculum that engages students in difficult conversations about race and racism, while giving them multiple perspectives. My goal is to provide my students with stories where they find themselves as the main character as well as stories that are windows into lives that are different than their own. These books will help me turn my classroom into a place that better celebrates diversity and encourages inclusion for all.
