How many students do you know that have phones, computers, or really any electronic device? Almost all of them. How many of them actually know how that device works? Makey Makey is a device that allows students to create their own "keyboard" or interface device. However, you can make your "keyboard" a banana or even something that you have drawn. Students being able to create their own interface device allows them to explore a new trend in creating devices to assist those with limited mobility. Using Makey Makey students will be able to see how STEAM enhances their learning, puts it into practical application, and how important it is to our future. Many students leave the STEAM world at an early age and focus on core academics believing that they have to do so to succeed. Using Makey Makey I hope to keep students invested in the STEAM world and how those core academics are paramount to succeeding in STEAM. Makey Makey will be used for problem solving and project based learning. They will have to test and work though bugs that may occur while programming their Makey Makey. Once they have completed their project they will then have to present their designs in the classroom as if they were in a pitch meeting. Not only will this create real world job interview experience but help the students with public speaking.
