High school students spend their days at the same kind of desk and chair in all of their classrooms. This kind of monotony causes students to be bored and disengaged in the learning process. Through my observations on a daily basis I have found that students appear to be restless, are not participating as much as they could be, and have even said they wish that they could sit on the floor or stand. I have deduced that in order to keep my students engaged, the seating in my classroom needs to be more flexible, providing options for students to move around more and be able to make the choice of what kind of seating arrangement they will choose day today. The classroom environment has been proven to inhibit or inspire student learning. In order to promote engagement, I want students to have a flexible working environment that will inspire them every day. It is my hope that with these furniture additions, students will be excited to come to my classroom and learn Spanish. Additionally, this kind of environment enables conversation, which will also inspire the students to do in Spanish. I think that by creating this welcoming environment, students will feel more at home and will really be open to learning, building relationships amongst each other, as well as strengthen the relationship I have with them.
