Several weeks ago, Google made headlines when it analyzed data and found that the top predictors of success in the organization were not "hard" skills like STEM preparation but "soft" skills such as being a critical thinker and problem solver as well as interpersonal skills. Settlers of Catan has been named one of the best games to teach strategy, and will provide my students the chance to practice these in-demand skills in low-risk environments. I am planning to spend two weeks learning the game and giving students a chance to play before a culminating tournament before winter break. I can't afford the games on my own, though.
