Finding resources that work for students with learning disabilities is a challenge. Having experience using many of these materials in the past, I can personally attest to their usefulness in teaching students who struggle to learn foundational academic skills. These materials provide hands-on opportunities for students to work on skills that are difficult for many of them to understand. I am requesting funds for learning materials including Phonemic Awareness Instant Learning Centers, a Touch & Read Phonics Match set, a Find the Letter Activity Center, Teaching Math Skills Activity Centers, and Magnetic Shape Sorting Rods. All of these materials will support the learning that my students are doing both in their general education and special education lessons. Skills include letter identification, phonemic awareness, sight word practice, counting, and sorting. All of these are essential foundational skills that help create readers and mathematicians. These materials will help provide hands-on practice opportunities in order to help special education students make their learning concrete. The pride that you see from a student who is finally reading a story after struggling for so long is one of the best things that I have ever witnessed. I, like every other teacher, want to provide the best education for my students. I believe that these resources would help me to achieve my goal of providing the best possible education and more importantly, help every child feel successful at school.
