Fifth Graders are busy people who are always onto the next thing. There just isn't enough time to slow down and organize materials! Our classroom in a fast-paced creative environment, and regardless of how many ways I provide organizational structures, kids are always losing things. I research and gather materials to individualize learning, but their folders become the proverbial washing machine that eats socks! Eleven-year-olds are meant to be more creative than organized, but there is something so frustrating about having to admit that you can't find your work when you need it, and I watch my students experience that feeling every day. Having a binding machine would help me create booklets of materials for units of study, to publish student writing and research projects, and to bind anthologies of poetry. Collections of student art work could be bound in a myriad of ways using the binder. I would share it with the music and band teachers so they could bind sheet music for students. There are countless ways having a binding machine would help our classroom be organized and our students feeling more successful.
