Receiving these books will enable my students to see connections between their lives and the lives of others. My colleague and I are collaborating and team-teaching our two subject areas, English/Language Arts and Social Studies, with our middle schoolers this year and Zane and the Hurricane is an excellent mentor text to synthesize our content and make the best use of our time with our students. We are excited about the prospect of reading this book with our students and creating activities and projects that incorporate standards from our two content areas.
