One of the big challenges in our classroom is the ability to communicate. Think about it. If you couldn't speak, and you couldn't type, how would you tell someone you're hungry? How would you tell someone you didn't feel well? Just imagine how frustrating it would be if you couldn't express yourself. We use picture communication to help our students express their needs currently, but as you can imagine, this is a clunky system and it's hard to carry around pictures for every situation at all times.
Having a classroom iPad will allow us to teach students communication skills, help students to self-regulate better, and provide tech-based learning opportunities that will continue to support our STEAM education.
Many of my students will be life-long users of some form of a communication device. iPads are a very commonly used device and are compatible with a variety of apps for communication and STEAM education. We are looking forward to being able to use ProLoQuo for communication, SeeSaw for sharing our in-class learning, GoldieBlox for coding, and more. The possibilities for creativity and engagement are endless!
