So why iPads and STEM tools? I feel as an educator it is not only my job to academically teach my kiddos but to also prepare them for the future. No one can deny that technology is the future. It's evident in practically all areas of our lives. As of now, our classroom is equipped with one computer per 32 students, and my students only receive 25 minutes per week in the computer lab. In addition, many of the center games that I offer, while very developmentally challenging, often lack the STEM aspect to them. With the iPads, I could give my students more "air time" to navigate new advanced applications and the STEM games would introduce kids to new science, math, and technology ideas and concepts. In addition, I feel strongly that every child is born with a gift. Because each child's gift is different and realized through experiences, the iPad will allow me to tailor these gifts and teach to the individual child. Also, as you can see from the list of STEM games I have selected, I have tried to select a wide variety of games as I have observed that my students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive when they are given challenging activities that stimulate THEIR personal learning style and not a "one size fits all" approach. As I have said before, learning should be fun for everyone! Thank you for your consideration.
