A new easel in our classroom will allow students to learn letters and numbers while in a collaborative setting. The lined whiteboard will enable me to model proper letter and number writing techniques, and the side that is not lined will allow me to teach how to draw a detailed illustration. After modeling, students will get the opportunity to share what they have learned by practicing their handwriting and illustrating on the easel. These whole group opportunities allow for peer-to-peer teaching and fine motor skill practice. More importantly, a classroom easel will allow us to have classroom meetings where students can practice reading predictive text and answering questions on the topic. This will build a sense of classroom community and will help build confidence when answering questions whole group. This easel will be used for many years to come and positively impact more than just the kindergarten students of 2021-2022!
