Banding-wheels are medium-sized metal "turntables" that my students use everyday. They are used to safely support and turn sculptures and wheel thrown vessels as students build, carve, decorate and apply glazes. They are an essential tool used in all classes, beginning to advanced. Many of the banding-wheels I "inherited" teaching ceramics at our school are old, worn and barely functional. We don't have enough banding-wheels for all 32 students in each class, so we share when possible. Currently, we have a mix of 15 older banding-wheels in varying states of quality and age. Many students try to get to class as early as possible to have first shot at getting the "newer" banding wheels. If we can get fifteen new wheels, we'll have enough banding-wheels for most of a typical class!
