The best way you can help me provide the necessary instruction for my students for independent living is to consider giving monies toward appliances for my classroom. With the use of kitchen appliances, my students will have the opportunities to learn and practice daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, etc.) in a safe and supportive environment. The current status of my appliances include an ineffective dishwasher, a broken garbage disposal, a rusted sink, a leaking faucet, a stove that does not maintain temperature and a fridge that is on its last legs. As you can imagine, this makes my job as an educator difficult when teaching students how to make recipes, load a dishwasher, properly clean the dishes, and learn how to effectively use all appliances in the kitchen. With these new appliances, I will be able to provide instruction for my students to learn and practice daily living skills. Students will be able to learn skills that will increase independence for daily living. The best way to promote independence is to have the opportunities to learn and practice daily living skills in a safe and supportive environment.
