Many English Language Learners arrive in the United States with little to no English proficiency. The New York City Department of Education supports them in a variety of ways; however, it is impossible to provide each student with language support in every class they take. This leaves many ELL students to rely on classmates and their busy teachers to provide translation and support. Technology goes a long way toward bringing those two worlds together. Regular use of a computer helps them to succeed on their own. It empowers them to control their own learning. This independence to learn and thrive on their own is the best give we can give them.
