In order to work on improving my student's speech and language skills, we often complete activities that involve crayons and markers. More often than not, we begin the activity only to find that some of the markers have dried out and that some of the crayons are broken. Therefore, my students are left with incomplete sets and missing colors, which makes it difficult to complete some of the activities. A lot of students pass through the speech room on a daily basis, so we strive to keep the room clean and sanitized. Before each activity, the students always use hand sanitizer and at the end of every day, we wipe down the table. Therefore, we tend to go through a lot of Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer on a daily/weekly basis. But, by keeping the room clean and sanitized, it reduces the students exposure to germs. This in turn results in better attendance, which ultimately leads to them making progress with their speech skills because they are able to attend the therapy sessions.
