Our students learned remotely from March 2020 until April 2021. When the kids returned briefly in person last April, the one thing they expressed the most disappointment in was that they missed the opportunity to do dissections in middle school. This Donor's Choose Project, and my 1+2 Club, provides the means for my students to have hands-on experiences that they missed out on for the last year and a half. Science is best learned by "doing". Simply discussing the anatomy of organisms is insufficient. Appreciation of the similar structures between species can be found in a diagram, to be sure, but the real wonder is seeing those structures and how they work in real life. I want my students to have the opportunity to make those discoveries with these worm, squid, and frog specimens.
