Student involvement is always a work in progress in my classroom. With over 50% ESL students, many are too embarrassed to participate. I have found one thing that peeks their interest: gameshow speed competitions. Whenever I host a gameshow-type competition/review, I have higher engagement and students participating who typically sit with their head down. The only challenge is managing which students "buzz in" first. There is often debate in what I saw and what the "contestants" experienced. This buzzer set will help streamline these gameshow opportunities and reduce tension in the competing students by providing a stronger sense of fairness that is highly valued among 13-year-olds.
