Getting an Oculus Rift would benefit my students in major ways. My students are part of the Multimedia & Technology Academy and the teachers within the pathway are constantly trying to find ways to get students to interact with the newest technology available. Since technology is always changing, it can be difficult to keep up, especially in terms of funding. While we have some very high-quality cameras and computers in our program, one thing the students have really been requesting is a high-quality virtual reality system. Recently, while attending the amazing Central Valley CUE conference, I was inspired to get a virtual reality system. The one that was being demoed there was the Vive, but unfortunately it costs more than the allowed $500 limit. After doing extensive research, I found that the Oculus Rift was probably our best option. I really think having this Virtual Reality system would help to engage students' creativity in new and exciting ways. It would also do wonders in improving the overall morale of the students in our pathway as they would really feel that they are part of something special and unique.
