These index cards will be used to aid students in acquiring vocabulary necessary for our literature studies. High school texts are filled with higher level vernacular that escapes some students. The index cards will allows my students to create flash cards to reference while reading to aid with comprehension of higher level texts. My students enjoy the literature we read and acquiring new vernacular - their favorite word - to use during class discussion. The index cards will also be used as discussion aids to plan their responses to community building circles. This will enable the timid students to contribute to the discussion without feeling the pressure to come up with a response on the spot.
