English language learners, or emergent bilingual students, in high school are tasked with a tall order: learn English as a second language during 9-12th grade. Reading is critical in building their fluency, comprehension, and literacy skills in general. Using Scholastic Action magazines will help me provide accessible materials to my students during distance learning. Scholastic Action magazines provide texts that are high-interest, meet state standards, and are easily accessible online. My students deserve great content to engage with during remote learning. The texts included in a magazine are high-interest, provide opportunities for differentiation, and lots of fun reads for students to practice independently online. My students will love having relevant texts to read, having choices in what they read, and the opportunity to share their thinking as they learn a new language.
