About my class

These resources will give students the opportunity to engage in more STEM activities and help students understand that science is all around us! These resources are allowing us to integrate STEM throughout the curriculum. My goal is to create first graders who are innovative, curious, and who can become future leaders in STEM. Based on research a STEM classroom promotes problem solving skills, collaboration, inspires students to think, test ideas, and build with their hands. Purpose of the items: -The tablets will allow the students to play interactive science or math games. These tablets can also be used in Language Arts or for English Language Development (ELD) to help students improve sight word recognition and reading fluency. -The straw construction pieces will allow the class to complete engineering lessons to learn about building and structures. Students will practice fine motor skills, thinking & reasoning skills, and engage with others in creative play. We can also use for Language Arts to build words or math to count out numbers. -The board games will allow students to work together and work on simple math and science problem solving skills. The pawns are needed as extra pieces to these board games. Students will be collaborating and solving puzzles. -The balance bucket will allow our class to complete measurement activities in math and science. Towards the end of the year we will focus on measurement. The buckets allow us to measure solids and liquids. This allows students to practice making observations and estimations. - The magnetic wands will allow students hands-on exploration and understand attraction and repulsion.
